I absolutely love beautiful Catholic Churches. Obviously, the beauty of the building in no way impacts the grace received from praying and worshipping there, but there is something about beauty that stirs us. There are so many theologians and saints who talk about the power of beauty.
During a recent trip to Houghton, I was able to experience this powerful beauty when I went to confession at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church. Unfortunately, I am not a photographer so the pictures (which I took with my cell phone) leave something to be desired, but I still couldn’t resist sharing this stunning church.
The church is also a historical site.
St. Ignatius has the tallest steeple in town. There are a few other red sandstone churches.

This picture doesn’t do the stained glass justice, but even the doors are beautiful!

I’ll be in Houghton Aug 20-22. Is the church open in the daytime to visit??
Hi Mark, I am not affiliated with the church and haven’t been there in several years so I can’t say for sure. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
For hours the church is open, you can call the office at (906) 482-0212.
